General Summary Statement

The Director of Strategy and Business Development is a critical role in achieving PMCCH’s Vision by supporting the development of and implementing effective goals, strategies and tactics that strengthen the organization’s financial profile and market position. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Operations and Physician Integration, the Director of Strategy and Business Development will ensure implementation of the Health System Strategic Plan, identification of new business and growth opportunities, and serve as a critical linkage between strategy and operations. She/he will communicate and interact with the operating entities’ leadership and clinical departments to ensure successful execution and return on investment. The Director of Strategy and Business Development will identify physician recruitment and alignment opportunities and facilitate their integration into the system. She/he will monitor the industry, competitors and market conditions and provide regular opportunity and risk assessments to senior management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan and corresponding business plans. Drive growth and performance through strategy formulation based on sound business analytics that consider the integration of the CCH market into the larger Penn Medicine Corporate strategy.

• Work with the Director of Strategic Analysis and the Director of Finance to develop actionable data analytics.

• Identify new business and growth opportunities that strengthen the organization’s financial profile and market position while balancing competing priorities and resources and also meeting the health care needs of the CCH service area.

• Ensure a disciplined approach to strategic decision-making and that all initiatives are supported by rigorous business and financial planning techniques.

• Utilize competitive intelligence techniques that identify and leverage strategic and market opportunities.

• Work collaboratively with the Directors in Corporate Marketing and Public Relations, Community Health and Physician Liaison Program to ensure complete alignment with organizational strategies.

• Work collaboratively with various corporate services (including but not limited to Corporate Business Strategy, Strategic Decision Support, Strategic Partnership, Marketing, System Integration)

• Support via project oversight, the expansion of services within the CCH service area.

Education, Training and Experience

• Seven to 10 years of proven experience in business development, new program development. Direct physician integration / access experience is desirable.

• Master’s level education required in a related field including, but not limited to, Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, or Master of Science.

• Strong business and financial planning skills.

• Ability to utilize analytical skills to uncover performance improvement opportunities.

• Professional presence and strong communication skills. Polished presentation skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed-organization and quickly build trust and credibility among medical staff leadership, physicians, executives, management, staff and community stakeholders.

• Manage project development and approvals in a system with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

• Be a strong representative of the organization in the community with the goal of building community goodwill and the system’s reputation.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt quickly to new assignments.

• Self-motivated, driven to achieve excellence, and willing to challenge the status quo.

• Excellent skills in Excel and Powerpoint and other system analytic tools. Working knowledge of EPIC reporting
