Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

The Supervisor of Central Sterile Processing supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in collecting, cleaning, processing, sterilization and delivering sterile supplies and equipment. Establishes methods and work performance standards for preparing sterilizing and handling of sterile items. Maintains adequate supply of items avoiding stock outs and critical items; duplication of instruments and equipment are in working order or sent for repair. Oversees and operating room case caret system and assumes responsibility for stocking all items listed on preference lists. Conducts and coordinates in-service training for department personnel. Prepares activity reports and assists the Manager in preparation of the budget and inventory levels. Directs various personnel actions to include but not limited to hiring, evaluating, disciplinary action and discharge with the guidelines of Hospital policy. Ensures infection control guidelines are pertains to sterile processing. Supports and interprets philosophy objectives and policies of the Hospital to Department and personnel.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Certificate from an accredited central service technician training program is required.

Experience:

Three years of sterile processing experience is required.

One year of supervisory experience is preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Certification in Central Sterile Processing to be obtained within 12 months.
