Your Opportunity

In the capacity of Transportation / Civil Designer - Roads & Highways, you will be supporting the transportation team, in both highway, municipal, and industrial sector projects, with a focus on quality and team collaboration.

The Transportation / Civil Designer has the interpersonal skills to work successfully in a team environment and support a culture of safety. Your skills sets will be called upon to execute a variety of tasks, including the technical preparation of highway and road related designs, assist with coordination of inputs form other disciplines, and peer quality reviews.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Technical Lead – Roads and Highways, performs engineering design tasks on assigned road & highway related projects, including the design and preparation of engineering drawings, cost estimates, construction specifications and contributes to engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies.

  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines and supporting technical staff for production of designs and drafting support.

  • Responsible for quality reviews of design deliverables.

  • Prepares designs at various levels, conceptual, preliminary design, functional and detailed design, tender and construction ready; and provides support through the construction phase of projects.

  • Knowledge and experience with BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure technical guidelines, engineering delivery procedures and construction standards would be an asset.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Effective communication oral and written skills and aptitude for developing future technical leadership within the group.

  • Able, when called upon, to effectively identify and discuss project issues within Project Teams and in front of Clients and stakeholders.

  • Excellent time-management skills, ability to work independently, track and manage priorities.

  • Understanding and ability to efficiently work within business framework based on defined project scope, work plans, tasks and deliverables, schedule, and budget parameters.

  • Understanding of applicable design guidelines and codes for relevant jurisdictions.

  • Strong understanding of relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD, Civil3D and Auto-Turn.

Education and Experience

  • Engineering Degree or Diploma with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, or a minimum of 10 years of directly related project experience producing roads and highway designs.

Position will primarily work in an office setting and may require the occasional travel and field work. Limited work from home alternatives are a possibility.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $73,600 - Lower Mainland $106,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
