Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test new features and optimizations for the C++ backend compiler.

  • Collaborate with other compiler teams, language designers, and tool developers to ensure compatibility, correctness, and performance of the C++ compiler across different platforms and scenarios.

  • Investigate and resolve customer performance, quality, reliability issues and feedback related to the C++ compiler and its generated output.

  • Collaborate with major silicon partners on next-generation hardware for the client and cloud.

Qualifications

R equired/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Current software development experience in C++ or a related language.

  • Knowledge of compiler fundamentals, code generation, optimization techniques, and assembly languages.

  • Experience with developing, debugging, and testing compilers or similar systems software.

       

Other Requirements:   

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.  

         

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of compiler fundamentals, code generation, optimization techniques, and assembly languages.

  • Experience with developing, debugging, and testing compilers or similar systems software.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with a passion for trouble shooting and solving complex customer problems.

  • Experience with developing or using compiler backends (CPU/GPU/TPU), especially the Microsoft C++ compiler or LLVM.

  • Familiarity with assembly code and modern CPU microarchitecture.

  • Experience with performance analysis and profiling tools, such as VTune, Perf, or WinDbg.

  • Passion for learning new technologies and improving existing ones.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
