The Associate General Counsel - Transactions provides in-house legal counsel to the WakeMed Legal Affairs department and reports to the Vice President and Chief Legal Officer (CLO). Provides legal services to WakeMed and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Provides legal services to the clinical entities associated with WakeMed. The services provided will cover a comprehensive array of legal issues facing the health system and health care providers, such as patient care, scope of practice, EMTALA, HIPAA, licensure board, medical staff and employment. Primary attorney responsible for managing litigation and potential litigation affecting WakeMed and its affiliated entities, including selection, assignment and oversight of outside litigation counsel. Primary attorney responsible for interfacing with Risk Management. Reviews and evaluates claims prior to suit, with an emphasis on early resolution where appropriate. May assist the CLO and Chief Compliance Officer with some investigations of alleged violations of internal policies and applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
Recommends and provides content for appropriate education and training related to areas of interest to WakeMed.
