Primary Function:

Interfaces with Engineering and Production to ensure documentation and processes meet manufacturing requirements. Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence, and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies. Estimates manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements for new and existing product lines. Designs and implements necessary tooling, jigs, and fixtures in support of assembly and fabrication. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review new and revised drawings for manufacturability, reliability, quality requirements, and cost of manufacture.

  • Convert engineering documentation to a form necessary for manufacturing, ensuring accurate bills of materials and engineering change control.

  • Write, review, and update operational routing sheets for fabrication and assembly processes. Generate manufacturing BOMs.

  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures, and tooling to make manufacturing more efficient.

  • Provide sustaining production support in resolving problems and improving procedures and processes for production released products.

  • Interface with suppliers as required for process support.

  • Perform various cost analyses for manufacturing process estimates, tool development estimates, and facilities related costs.

  • Design and implement techniques that will increase yield and reduce production costs.

  • Prepare office and factory plans and layouts as required.

  • Serve as member of Change Control Board (CCB) and Preliminary Review Board (PRB).

  • Conduct, and participates in, audits as required to ensure process capability both internally and externally (suppliers).

  • May be responsible for recommending corrective action where EH&S hazards exist.

  • Work alongside Quality and Test engineering functions to achieve common program and operational goals.

  • Provide continuous improvement to drive out waste while increasing safety and quality.

  • Support the root cause and corrective action process.

  • Responsible for managing complex projects involving delegation of work and review of work products.

  • Frequently responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.

    Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interacts with both internal and external senior personnel. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and needs only general instructions on new assignments. Resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. This job equates to a fully qualified, career-oriented position.

    Education/Experience/Training:

    Requires comprehensive level knowledge of job area. May have in-depth knowledge of project management. Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

    Requires skills as a seasoned manufacturing engineering professional with a full understanding of tool design, knowledge of machine and composites fabrication, and a thorough understanding of assembly processes.

    Experience with cost estimating is preferred. Ability to interact well with others and exceptional communication skills are essential. A strong knowledge of current PC applications in word-processing and spreadsheets. Experience with, and knowledge of, design utilizing CAD software (Creo and AutoCAD) is highly desirable.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Background in manufacturing for Military and Government Systems.

  • Strong analytical and problems solving skills.

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.

  • Flexible to work varied shifts, overtime, weekends and travel on occasion.

  • Ability to type for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Based on job duties and need to support different functional areas within the facility, there may be exposure to; fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals (well below OSHA and ACGIH exposure guidelines), outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts and/or be involved with a hearing conservation program due to noise levels around certain equipment.

  • May be required to move items 25 pounds for distances of up to 25 feet.

  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.

    In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $116,000 - $155,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
