Job Summary - Director, Financial Reporting - Research

The Director of Financial Reporting has oversight of federal, state, and local grant accounting, internal controls, compliance, and the single audit for all sponsored programs of Corewell Health. They will work collaboratively with the System financial accounting team to drive efficiencies for all accounting functions . The Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for the preparation of monthly board and management reports to ensure relevant, reliable and timely information is clearly communicated to key decision makers and constituents. Leads highly engaged team of financial analysts and accountants to work directly with business owners to understand the financial implications business decisions and transactions, proposed and historic. Establishes and monitors strong internal control environments, general ledger oversight, efficient and effective transactional finance activities, and ensures all financial reports are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Essential Functions - Director of Financial Reporting-Research

  • Directs the preparation of all internal monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial reporting submissions for the Board of Directors and executive management team, including monthly financial results, annual operating budget and five-year forecast, etc. This must be completed within deadlines and must ensure accurate, reliable and consistent financial reporting.

  • Coordinates monthly financial reporting issues with all Corewell Health divisions and ensures collaboration and communication with divisional finance leadership. Oversees the periodic analysis and reporting of accounting and financial information. Directs the monthly and quarterly reporting of expenses compared to revenue and variances from budget, trend and projection.

  • Oversees the coordination of activities of the Independent Auditors and ensures that all information requests are prepared timely and accurately System, including stand-alone statutory audits of Priority Health, annual filings with OFIR, employee benefit plan, single audits and any other stand-alone audit requirements.

  • Responsible for all external financial reporting. Oversees the preparation of information to be to be used in the preparation of tax, cost report, surveys, bond issuances, grants, and other regulatory filings.

  • Responsible for providing direction, to all affiliate financial reporting teams, on the implementation of new accounting standards that impact Corewell Health. Provides direction and an implementation plan, when necessary, to ensure that accounting standards are implemented timely and appropriately. Is responsible for developing and maintaining System-wide accounting policies and procedures and assists affiliates with implementation of new policies

  • Responsible for department process improvement, workload management and staff performance efforts. Responsible for developing the skill sets of staff members so that job functions are performed as efficiently as possible. Responsible for relationship management with Corewell Health finance team and external public accounting firm.

  • Oversees finance policy and standardization efforts for the System.

Qualifications Director of Financial Reporting-Research

  • Required Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

  • Preferred Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.

  • Minimum of 8 years in accounting/finance profession with significant experience managing people. Required.

  • Experience in public accounting. Preferred.

  • Experience managing in an organization with the size and complexities of Corewell Health preferred.

  • Insurance, research, grant(s) or healthcare industry experience. Preferred.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - State of Michigan preferred.
